Christian Counseling
Have you lost your passion for this journey called “LIFE”?
Is it time to deal with some things that keep you from GROWING?
Do you know what you VALUE most and what your PURPOSE is?
Are you YEARNING for MORE??
Over the last nearly 30 years of practice, I have worked with people from a variety of faiths, backgrounds, and belief systems. I, myself, am an enthusiastic follower of Jesus Christ. If you desire a therapist who understands and appreciates your Christian worldview, you have come to the right place. As a minister’s daughter, a long-time student of the Bible, and a lover of God, I am passionate about helping you utilize your faith to find greater hope, healing, and growth.
What is Christian Counseling?
Christian counseling is the application of Christian beliefs and principles to situational, emotional, relational, and spiritual struggles in order to develop healthier, more meaningful, and more joy-filled lives. In Christian counseling, I combine best practices from psychological science along with Christian values, Biblical truths, and widely accepted spiritual exercises, such as prayer and meditation. to promote new understandings, decreased anxiety, wholeness, and growth. A Christian approach to therapy can be utilized for individual, couples, or family struggles. Together we will address your pain and difficulties through the lens of your personal values and beliefs. If desired, I may also recommend faith-based resources for further exploration outside of therapy, e.g. readings, support groups such as Celebrate Recovery, and opportunities for volunteering, engaging in religious services, and forming a community with like-minded people.
Building on your strengths, such as your faith, can assist you to make changes more quickly. Combining Biblical principles with effective therapeutic strategies, our work together can result in rapid transformation. My role is to come alongside you to assist you in sorting out the tangles of daily living and apply spiritual, as well as psychological, principles to these struggles, perhaps in ways you haven’t before considered. You may have developed some ideas about God and how He feels about you that are not Biblical or healthy, perhaps projected from your early experiences with authority figures. With a fresh lens in an atmosphere of grace and acceptance, we can look at these experiences and the “felt conclusions” that derive from them, challenge the parts that are untrue, and enlarge your experience of God and His love for you.
"I am so grateful for you and how God has spoken through you to me...He has truly made you for this purpose and gifted you so! Thank you for encouraging me and challenging me."
The “so what?” Questions
I am a pragmatist at heart, meaning—if the convictions we hold have no practical value for improving and guiding our lives Monday-Saturday, not just when we are at church, then what good are they? The strength of our faith is not faith itself, but what one has faith in.
And my faith is steadfastly in the God of the Bible— His love, His grace, His truth, His story of redemption, and His sovereign control.
What we believe shapes how we feel and what we choose to do. So what we believe better work! If what you believe isn’t “working” to help you deal with life on life’s terms, then I can help you sort things out, and perhaps even course correct some ideas that pragmatically are hurting more than helping.
For some, your earlier religious upbringing may have grown dusty from disuse, or more painfully, your beliefs may have taken some hits because of life’s twists and turns. Perhaps you were raised to believe in God…but heartaches and struggles have bruised your beliefs beyond recognition. I can help. Not because I can answer all of your “why’s”, but because I’ve been there, too. And come out the other side with stronger faith. What we believe changes how we view what happens in life. Maybe your earlier beliefs were too rigid or too simplistic...or didn’t allow for suffering as a normal part of life on this planet. I would be honored to join you at this critical juncture and together we will wrestle with the questions, doubts, and disillusionment.
Wherever you are and whatever your worldview, I will be respectful, gracious, and help you test out the workability of your assumptions and beliefs. If you haven’t discovered the “so what” for your life, we can explore together what you want your life to be about and what you desire to accomplish on your journey.
