F.A.Q.

Many people have questions before starting therapy.  Here is our list of frequently asked questions, to help you know what to expect.

How often do I come to counseling? Collapse

Ultimately that is decided by you, the client. But Dr. Gerdes will discuss with you your needs and concerns, then together determine a plan that takes into account the intensity of the problems, your goals for change, and the pace at which you desire to work on these issues. It is very common for clients to come once a week or once every two weeks depending on the issue, and over time, to decrease in frequency as the problems begin to resolve.

How many sessions will I need? Expand

This is the most common question and also the most difficult to answer. There are so many variables involved that affect this answer, such as the type of issues being addressed, how long the problems have been going on, how frequently sessions are needed, and the client's motivation in the growth process. However, if you do not begin to experience some benefit after the first several sessions, please discuss this with Dr. Gerdes. Together, you and she will reevaluate your needs to better address the problems that brought you to therapy.

Does Dr. Gerdes accept my insurance? Expand

Dr. Gerdes is not an "in-network" provider with any insurance company, due to the intrusiveness of many insurance companies in requesting confidential information. She is happy to provide you with a receipt for you to submit for reimbursement on your out-of-network benefits, if you so desire. Please contact your insurance company to learn what your out-of-network benefits and stipulations are.

What are the hours of availability? Expand

Dr. Hale Gerdes schedules clients on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Her earliest appointment is at 9:00 a.m. and the latest appointment is typically 4:00 or 4:30 p.m. Dr. Gerdes does not see clients in the evenings or on weekends.

How long do sessions last? Expand

Initial evaluation sessions are scheduled for 1.5 hours. Follow-up therapy sessions are usually 45-50 minutes for individuals, and 90 minutes for couples, however appointments can be customized to the amount of time you need, e.g. 30 minute appointments for cost-savings, or 90 minutes, or two-hour (or more) appointments for more intensive work.

Do you offer Christian counseling? Expand

Yes, Dr. Gerdes lives her own life with a Christian world-view and is well-equipped to counsel utilizing Scripture and other faith-resources.  However, she respects the beliefs and background of each individual she works with.  Faith/spirituality issues may be addressed, as desired, whenever you choose to bring these up in your therapy.
